Day number 12 - arrive in Bangkok

We woke up early, made sure everything was packed and left with the car on the way to the airport. I put the address in GOOGLE MAPS and we started driving to the airport. After about 20-30 minutes the road changed and changed its face, from a highway to city roads, and the climax - we passed through a forest (!) on a road full of bumps, while I make sure every few minutes that we are really on our way to the airport.

It was a little stressful, because we didn't want to be late for the flight and I didn't understand what was so urgent for the navigation software to send me on this particular route, instead of a normal intercity road.

So we saw stunning views that we wouldn't have seen just like that, and at the end of this not easy road, a tiny sign appeared with an arrow to the left - AIRPORT. We went up the King's Road again and, indeed, slightly late by fifteen minutes, we arrived at the airport.

After that it became clear to me that the navigation software gave me a route as a motorcycle, and therefore challenged us like that... But wait, we're not done with GOOGLE MAPS and its challenges for today....

At the airport, the representative of PURECARRENT was already waiting for us, he helped me with the luggage and was super helpful. This time his English was also good.

We checked in for the flight, handed over our luggage, boarded an extremely crowded THAI SMILE plane, and after an hour and a quarter of flight, we landed in Bangkok.

After about 20 minutes of waiting for the luggage, they all got off the conveyor belt and we went to meet Sumchai who was waiting for us. We arranged with him in advance that he would take and return us to all kinds of places in the area, and also to/from the airport.

The trip took about an hour, where we learned about the crazy traffic jams of Bangkok and the fact that almost no one blows their horn there. And around 15:00 we landed at the BAIYORK SKY HOTEL, which boasts the title of the highest hotel in Bangkok, and after the entire stay we were in ground rooms with a pool, I decided that we would diversify a bit and sleep high up.

Indeed, after a check-in process that included a lot of Japanese people who I got the impression didn't know how to stand in line, we got the room. Go up easy with all the luggage to the 68th floor, enter the room and find there...

one double bed

Ok, where are the rest? But don't worry, after 2 minutes there was a knock on the door and they brought us another bed.

I go, check the reservation again - make sure I booked for five people, but in this hotel apparently things work a little strange... and the smell that was in the room... killed us. We went down to the reception to ask if we could change the room to another one.

We got a key to another room, we checked it there too - we didn't understand how we could get five people in...

We went back to the reception and asked if it was possible to cancel the deal because the photos on the site and the room itself... are not exactly one to one... They agreed immediately, were very helpful and canceled the deal for us.

We sat down in the lobby on the 18th floor of the hotel and checked our options, and found a great hotel called AMARI WATERGATE, which according to GOOGLE MAPS is only 500 meters from us.

On the map it looked great and we said to ourselves, instead of looking for a big taxi now, putting all our luggage on it, standing in traffic - we'll just walk 500 meters, what else could it be?

It turns out that what Google didn't tell us, is that these 500 meters are not just a street - but a market, and even one that is particularly active... and that's how we found ourselves walking in the middle of a market, with luggage. The thing is that we didn't even look unusual in the landscape, because there were other people walking like that - the sellers in the market with their wares...

We arrived at the hotel at a good time and at the reception we asked for the rooms to be adjoining. We were told it was a bit of a problem but they would definitely try, so in the meantime we got one room, and decided to hand over our laundry to a nearby laundromat. The children waited in the room and we walked another 500 meters to a laundromat called FINISH LAUNDRY. Unlike the previous laundry, where the charge was by kg, here the charge was by item (10 baht per unit). We strongly do not recommend them - we received back items that were not ours, and in addition we lost 2 items...

When leaving the laundromat, we went through the PLATINIUM mall located in front of the hotel to get dinner, but we didn't really find anything reasonable - we continued to the GRAB app which never disappoints and indeed within 30 minutes the food arrived. We retired to our rooms to rest from this arduous day and went to sleep.
